CBS took top honors in ratings Thursday night, besting the competition in both the key demo and total viewers thanks in large part to “The Big Bang Theory,” which posted the night’s biggest numbers, according to preliminary data.
CBS was the top-rated network for the night with a 1.9 rating/7 share in the advertiser-preferred 18-49 demographic and also the most-watched with an average 8.9 million total viewers. “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 p.m. was the night’s highest-rated and most-watched program, receiving a 3.2/13 with 13 million total viewers. “The Odd Couple” at 8:30 drew a 1.9/7 with 8.7 million total viewers.
Following a “Big Bang Theory” repeat, “Mom” at 9:30 posted a 2.0/6 with 8.4 million total viewers. “Elementary” at 10 took a 1.2/4 with 7.4 million total viewers.
ABC was second in the demo and in total viewers with a 1.7/6 and 6.2 million. “Grey’s Anatomy” at 8 posted a 1.8/7 with 6.6 million total viewers, while “Scandal” the following hour drew a 2.1/7 with 7.2 million viewers overall. “American Crime” at 10 took a 1.1/4 with 4.7 million total viewers.
Third-place NBC averaged a 1.2/4 for the night with 5.8 million total viewers. “Dateline: NBC” at 8 drew a 1.3/5, the network’s best demo performance in that time slot since the Dec. 4 airing of “Peter Pan Live!” With 6.5 million total viewers, it was also the most-watched hour in that slot for the network in six and a half years. The following hour, “The Blacklist” had a 1.6/5 with 7.5 million total viewers. “The Slap” at 10 took a 0.7/2 with 3.3 million total viewers.
Univision took fourth place in the demo with a 1.0/4 and fifth in total viewers with 2.7 million.
Fox was fifth in ratings with a 0.9/3 and fourth in total viewers with 3.9 million. “Bones” at 8 posted a 1.1/4 with 4.7 million viewers, while “Backstrom” the following hour took a 0.8/3 with 3.2 million total viewers.
Telemundo came in sixth in the demo and total viewers with a 0.6/2 and 1.5 million.
The CW aired repeats on Thursday night.
