CBS and ABC tied for first place in the key 18-49 demographic on Wednesday night, with the latter’s comedies “Modern Family” and “Black-ish” scoring the night’s top numbers in the demo, according to preliminary numbers.
The CW’s “Arrow,” meanwhile, dropped off 20 percent from last week’s season premiere.

CBS, which like ABC averaged a 2.1 rating for the night, was also the night’s most-watched network for the night with an average 9.3 million total viewers. “Survivor” at 8 p.m. drew a 2.3 rating with 9.3 million total viewers, while “Criminal Minds” the following hour inched up from last week in both the demo and total viewers, scoring a 2.4 rating and 10.8 million total viewers, which made it the most-watched broadcast of the night. The freshman drama “Stalker” at 10 stayed even in the demo with a 1.7 rating and drew 7.8 million total viewers.
ABC, was third in total viewers with 6.5 million, aired the specials “Toy Story of Terror” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” followed by “Modern Family” at 9, which despite a slight decrease was the night’s top-rated show with a 3.3 rating/10 share and had 9.5 million total viewers. “Black-ish” at 9:30 was also down slightly with a 2.5/7 and 6.9 million total viewers. “Nashville” at 10 slid 13 percent from last week for a 1.3/4 and had 5 million total viewers.
NBC came in third in the demo and second in total viewers with a 1.5/5 and 7.5 million. Both “Mysteries of Laura” at 8 and “Law & Order: SVU” the following hour drew even compared to last week, with the former scoring a 1.3/4 and 8.5 million total viewers and the latter taking a 1.7/5 with 7.3 million. “Chicago PD” at 10 was up slightly for a 1.6/5 and drew 6.7 million total viewers.
Fox was fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.1/3 and 3.4 million. The network aired “Hell’s Kitchen” at 8, which was down 14 percent in the demo with a 1.2/4 but was steady in total viewers with 3.7 million; and “Red Band Society” the following hour, which drew even with last week for a 0.9/3 with 3.1 million total viewers.
Univision was fifth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.0/3 and 2.9 million.
The CW tied Telemundo in the demo with a 0.6/2, and was sixth in total viewers with 1.9 million. (Telemundo averaged 1.3 million total viewers for the night.) “Arrow” at 8 dropped off 20 percent from last week to a 0.8/3 and had 2.3 million total viewers. A repeat of “The Flash” followed.
