Prince rocked Studio 8H this weekend as musical guest on a Chris Rock hosted edition of “Saturday Night Live,” with an unprecedented eight-minute set.
Rock introduced the music legend by telling the audience, “Ladies and gentlemen you are so lucky tonight. Get up out your seats and welcome Prince!”
The Purple One and his new all-female backing band 3rdEyeGirl then launched into their extended jam session.

They performed a medley of tracks off Prince’s two new simultaneously released albums, “Art Official Age” and “Plectrumelectrum.”
Prince and company started out with the soulful single “Clouds.” Then they kicked it up a notch with “Marz” before segueing into “Another Love.”

Prince’s performance was his first television appearance to promote the new albums. His single-set also made “SNL” history. The NBC show’s performances have always historically been broken up into two segments, often with the first at midnight and the second just before the end of the 90-minute sketch comedy show. However, Prince performed one long set in the middle of the show.
His sexy performance and Rock’s “SNL” return helped propel the show to its best household ratings since February.
