The music from “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has been nominated for awards by the Society of Composers and Lyricists, the group announced on Thursday morning.

The 4th annual SCL Awards will take place on Feb. 15, 2023 at the Skirball Cultural Center in West Los Angeles and give out awards in four film categories, as well as one category for TV and another for interactive media.

Alexandre Desplat was nominated for the score to “Pinocchio” and for co-writing the song “Ciao Papa” from that movie, making him the only two-time nominee in the film categories. Bear McCreary also received a pair of nominations, one for the TV series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and one for the interactive “God of War Ragnarok.”

Five of the 10 nominated scores and six of the 10 songs also appeared on the Oscars shortlists in the music categories, which were announced on Wednesday. Desplat, Carter Burwell for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Michael Abels for “Nope,” John Powell for “Don’t Worry, Darling” and Ryan Lott for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” were the composers nominated by the SCL and shortlisted by the Academy.

The songs “Ciao Papa,” “Good Afternoon” from “Spirited,” Taylor Swift’s “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing,” Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” and Rihanna’s “Life Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” were on both song lists. So was Diane Warren’s “Applause” from “Tell It Like a Woman.”

Scores that were nominated by the SCL but not shortlisted by AMPAS include Michael Giacchino for “The Batman” and Rob Simonson for “The Whale,” while songwriters only singled out by the SCL include Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for “(You Made It Feel Like) Home” from “Bones and All.”

Television nominees include Nicholas Britell for “Andor,” Siddhartha Khosla for “Only Murders in the Building,” Theodore Shapiro for “Severance” and Cristobal Tapia de Veer for ”The White Lotus.”

Of the 20 composers nominated for their scores, only four are women: Sharon Farber for the documentary “Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power” and the interactive composers Nainita Desai, Stephanie Economou and Winifred Phillips.

Although the Society of Composers and Lyricists has been giving out the SCL Awards for only four years, the organization has existed as the SCL since 1983 and is an offshoot of other organizations that date back to 1945.
