Watch out, John Oliver; you’ve attracted the Twitter wrath of Piers Morgan.
British media personality Morgan took a poke at “Last Week Tonight” host Oliver on Sunday, dubbing Oliver a “shameless old fraud.”
“Watching John Oliver repeatedly say ‘we’ & ‘us’ when discussing America is comical. Mate, you were born in the Midlands to a pair of Liverpudlian parents & speak in a thick Brummie accent,” Morgan wrote. “You’re about as American as cricket & mushy peas, you shameless old fraud!”
Perhaps predictably Morgan came in for some criticism himself after taking aim at Oliver.
“Why do you call trump Mr. President then??? He’s not your President is he????” read one reply to Morgan, who was criticized earlier this year for an interview with Trump which many deemed as too soft on the president.
“A tinge of jealousy for someone who is actually liked?” asked another Morgan detractor.
“Poor form @piersmorgan ‘we & us’ is about where you live and where your family are not where you’re born. I say that as a proud Englishman now an Australian citizen,” read another response.
Yet another pointed out that Oliver “is an American permanent resident, holds a green card, and his wife his a war veteran …. think he has all the right to say ‘we’ and ‘us.’”
