Piers Morgan Tells James Carville ‘Trans Stuff’ Matters to Conservative Voters ‘More Than You Think’ | Video

Failing to take those concerns seriously is what allowed Trump to appear as the “voice of common sense” in the election

Concerns about transgender athletes competing in women’s sports “matters more than you think” to conservative voters in the United States, Piers Morgan insisted while in conversation with James Carville on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”

“If you’re concerned about the state track meet, please do something about it. We have an athletic association, they can do it,” Carville explained of his own position Friday.

“But if you’re more concerned with that or more concerned about bathroom stalls, then hang out in bathrooms. This is not of a concern to me,” he continued. “There are people that can deal with this. I’m worried about the cost of living. I’m worried about access to healthcare.”

“I would dispute that,” Morgan cut in. “A lot of Democrats have tried to say to me, ‘It didn’t really matter, the trans stuff and the woke stuff’ and I keep saying, I think it matters more than you think.”

He added that the issue allowed Trump to position “himself as the voice of common sense” for a block of voters who have placed significant importance on the issue, “and you had a party led by Joe Biden and Kamala, who both thought it’s fine for biological men to compete in women’s sport, for example, that actually that was more powerful than people realized, in the third tier of why they voted.”

Such voters, Morgan also said, voted in terms of the “Economy, one, immigration, two, woke mind virus, three. Supported by Kamala Harris.”

Morgan has offered his own take on the issue in the past. In February 2022 he described the controversy surrounding trans swimmer Lia Thomas as “obviously, grotesquely unfair.”

“You can support trans rights – as I do – and you can believe that trans people can have full equality and fairness, right to the point where it creates a new inequality,” he said on “Fox & Friends.”

Thomas was thrust into the spotlight after she set the fastest times in the country in the women’s 200 and 500 freestyle swims and qualified for the NCAA National Championships. Thomas began hormone replacement therapy two and a half years before setting the record. At the time, trans athletes were required to have one year of testosterone suppression before competing on a women’s team.

The topic has been a major part of political discourse in the months and years that have followed. In December 2024 NCAA President Charlie Baker testified that he believes that out of approximately 500,000 NCAA athletes, fewer than 10 are transgender. In February, Trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes in from competing in women’s sports (notably, the order did not ban trans athletes from competing in men’s sports).
