Piers Morgan might have been criticized for seeming to go too soft on Donald Trump during his interview with the president last year, but he had some hard words for him on Wednesday following a school shooting that has reportedly left more than 15 dead.
British media personality Morgan issued a stern challenge to Trump via Twitter, asking what he planned to do about mass shootings in the United States.
“Three of the 10 worst mass shootings in American history have happened in your 1st year, Mr President @realDonaldTrump,” Morgan wrote. “What are you going to do about it?”
Morgan also shared a portion of his interview with Trump, in which Morgan pushed the president on the topic of gun violence.
In the interview, Morgan brought up Stephen Paddock, the man accused of killing 58 people during a mass shooting in Las Vegas last year. Morgan mentioned that Paddock allegedly purchased 55 guns legally in the year prior to the shooting.
Trump responded, “Well, we do have gun control laws and this sick person — he was a sicko. I mean that’s the big problem — they’re sick people … If he didn’t have a gun, he would have a bomb, or would have something else.”
The latest shooting happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, roughly 50 miles north of Miami.
An “AR-15-style weapon” was recovered at the scene, according to CNN.
Nikolas Cruz, 19, who officials said is a former student at the school, has been ID’d as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody nearby in Coral Springs.
