"A Christmas Story" star Peter Billingsley has signed on to executive produce the live musical adaptation of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The original Ralphie says the musical, which begins previews Wednesday at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theater and then runs Dec. 9-30, will stay true to the 1983 film.
'A Christmas Story' has always meant a lot to me personally,” Billingsley said. “I’m excited to bring this film to the stage because the story and the characters lend themselves so well to the world of musicals.”
Based, like the film, onJean Shepherd’s short stories, the musical includes an original score from Broadway composers Benj Paske and Justin Paul.
Billingsley produced 2006’s "The Break Up" and 2008's "Four Christmases" and "Iron Man." He made his directorial debut with last year's "Couples Retreat."
"I am honored to be a part of this project and look forward to bringing the play to more stages," he said. "Just think about the idea of a leg-lamp kickline."
