
The rise of social media’s presence in everyday life has come with an increase in site policing and rules in response to the behavior and content of certain users. And as government officials and notable personalities use social media to their benefit, sometimes more extreme personalities run afoul of the guidelines for using said platforms.
The desire to tamp down the spread of harmful misinformation resulted in several bans of Twitter users for spreading false information, the most recent of which have bled into 2022 almost exactly a year after the January 6 Capitol Riot, which also caused significant uproar across social media.
