Channing Tatum is the Sexiest Man Alive, declares People Magazine.
The newly anointed object of all-consuming lust, has had a sizzling year at the box office. He has starred in three films that have topped $100 million domestically — "The Vow," "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike." The latter film made great use of Tatum's anatomical attributes. Co-starring an Adonis-heavy cast that included Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey, the low-budget Chippendale drama became the surprise hit of last summer.
In true, good looking, but oh-so-modest fashion, Tatum scoffed at the idea that his washboard abs and perfectly chiseled features made him sexier than other mere mortals.
"My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" Tatum told People.
He said his wife, actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum, was singularly unimpressed. "I told Jenna after we'd been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked. She was like, 'What?'"
Tatum joins a distinguished list of past hunks. Prior Sexiest Men Alive include Hugh Jackman, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Ryan Reynolds and, oh course, Nick Nolte.
The question is will Tatum's win be met with the same outrage that greeted the choice of Bradley Cooper last year? At the time, Ryan Gosling fans launched a social media campaign to pressure the magazine to recant its choice and participated in an anemic protest outside People's New York City offices while donning masks of the "Drive" star.
People bravely stood by its selection.
