Paula Abdul Takes a CBS Gig: ‘Got to Dance’

She’ll be head judge on the new reality show

Paula Abdul is returning to reality television. Sorry "Idol" lovers, the "Straight Up" singer and sometimes ditzy talent show judge won’t be reuniting with Simon Cowell on "X Factor." Instead she will executive produce and be the lead judge on a new reality show competition series for CBS, tentatively titled "Got to Dance."

Based on a popular British show that began last year on Sky TV, the series will see the former choreographer return to her dance roots. Like "Idol" or "So You Think You Can Dance," amateur contestants from across the coutnry will audition for Abdul and a panel of experts before performing live in the semi-finals and finals to compete for the "Got to Dance" championship.

Abdul also will serve as coach, mentor and advocate for contestants during the performances and elimination process, providing critical input and guidance while sharing her experience with hopeful contestants.

In moving to the eye network, Abdul also reportedly turned down an opportunity to oversee ABC’s reboot of "Star Search." Yet Vulture reports that there’s enough flexibility in Abdul’s "Got to Dance" contract to allow her to co-judge on "X Factor" should she be asked.
