Paul Giamatti is going to get "Hoke"-y for FX.
The "Sideways" actor has signed on to star in the drama pilot "Hoke" for the network, FX executives said Wednesday.
Giamatti will play Hoke Moseley, a "hard-boiled and possibly insane" homicide detective in pre-chic Miami, circa 1985.

Billed as a "darkly comedic drama," the pilot is billed on Charles Willeford's series of novels, which includes "Sideswipe," "New Hope for the Dead" and "The Way We Die Now." Production is slated to begin later this year in Miami.

Giamatti will also executive produce the project, along with Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon, Scott Frank and Dan Carey. Frank, who wrote the pilot, will serve as showrunner if the FX Productions project goes to series.
Giamatti's production company, Touchy Feely Films, entered a two-year first look deal with FX Productions in Sept. 2012.
