Mariah Carey joining a tribute to Brett Ratner, the post-Oscars Sun Valley Film Festival, and the long-awaited debut of Melissa Rauch‘s hard-R comedy “The Bronze” top the party circuit during the second week of March.
Mariah Carey was rumored to come to Brett Ratner‘s ADL tribute with Ben Silverman last year, and the headline-making singer delivered by planting one on the Venice Family Clinic’s top honoree on Monday night at the Beverly Hilton.
Meanwhile, there may not be a single 30-second segment of Melissa Rauch‘s gymnast-comedy “The Bronze” that would make it past CBS’ censors at her day job on “The Big Bang Theory.” After a 2015 Sundance bidding war, a transfer from Relativity to Sony Classics, and several release dates pushed, the hype is real for Rauch’s flick that debuted at the Pacific Design Center on March 7. The actress wrote and stars in the story of a Kerri Strug-type gymnastics hero who devolves post-Olympics into a 10-year bender.
Rauch’s “Big Bang Theory” castmates turned up in full force.
“Silicon Valley’s” Thomas Middleditch plays a guy Rauch’s character disaffectionately calls “Twitchy.”
The “who is that girl?” breakout of the film is newly-minted 21-year-old Haley Lu Richardson. The premiere fell on the night of her big birthday.
A boyfriend (Brett Dier from “Jane the Virgin”), a manager, and lots of friends joined the party at the PDC. Manager Molly Madden (in the rose glasses) of 3 Arts told TheWrap that after seeing Richardson in “The Bronze” at Sundance, she knew she had to sign her.
Kate Micucci (center) and Doug Benson (right) were two of the many comedy pals on the scene, including “Veep’s” Matt Walsh, Molly Shannon and Casey Wilson.
Mark Duplass (left) who produced “The Bronze” with brother Jay, was freshly back from Sun Valley, Idaho. He joined Jennifer Lafleur and Oliver Stone at the weekend festival up north.
Three Oscar winners on the weekend after the Academy Awards: Stone, Melissa Leo and Bruce Dern at the Sun Valley Film Festival, the 5th edition of the event. “We sold out of our festival, party, and film passes on the eve of the festival and had sold out films, panels, and shows,” exec director Teddy Grennan said.
Over at the Beverly Hilton, Bennett Miller and Brian Grazer supported the Venice Family Clinic’s honoree of the year, Brett Ratner. Judd Apatow is a previous winner.
