Paris Jackson has a message for her fans: She loves you, but some of you are getting under her skin a little bit.
In a tweet Tuesday, the daughter of deceased music legend Michael Jackson implored her followers to stop changing her skin tone in photo edits of her.
“I appreciate everything y’all make for me, I enjoy every single edit I see,” Jackson wrote. “But please stop lightening my skin to make me look more white. and please stop darkening my skin to make me look more mixed.”
Jackson continued, “I am what I am. I’m aware of what I look like and I i[sic] finally happy with it.”
In a Rolling Stone cover story last year, Jackson addressed her racial identity, saying that she considers herself black.
Jackson added that her father, whose own skin tone varied throughout his life, “would look me in the eyes and he’d point his finger at me and he’d be like, ‘You’re black. Be proud of your roots.’ And I’d be like, ‘OK, he’s my dad, why would he lie to me?’ So I just believe what he told me. ‘Cause, to my knowledge, he’s never lied to me.”
