Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas late Friday, charged with cocaine possession.
Police pulled over a car Hilton had been traveling in because they suspected marijuana smoke was coming from it.
The Cadillac Escalade — driven by Hilton's boyfriend, Cy Waits — was pulled over in front of the Wynn Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip at approximately 11:30 p.m., police said.
During the stop, officers found what appeared to be a drug on Hilton and tests later showed that it was cocaine, according to the Associated Press.
Hilton was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of possession of cocaine, Las Vegas police spokesman Marcus Martin said.
She was held and then released early Saturday morning. Hilton's publicist did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
"This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media," Hilton's attorney said in a statement.
Police charged Waits with DUI. His release was still pending early Saturday. A court date for Hilton was not immediately available.
The weekend, though, apparently began well for Paris. "What a beautiful day laying by the pool," Hilton tweeted Friday afternoon. "Love life!"
Earlier this week, Los Angeles police arrested a man trying to break into Hilton's home. Authorities said the man was armed with two kitchen knives. (Hilton tweeted about that, too.)
Hilton is no stranger to substance abuse allegations. She was arrested earlier this summer at the World Cup in South Africa for possession of marijuana — a charge that was later dropped.
In 2007, she was sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading pleaded to an alcohol-related reckless driving charge. She was released after serving 23.
Hilton later told Larry King she was through partying. “I realized that there's a lot more important things in my life,” Hilton said in an interview on King's show. “And there's a lot more things to do. And I'm frankly sick of it. You know, I've been going out for a long time now. And yes, it's fun, but it's not going to be the mainstay of my life anymore.”
