Paramount Extends ‘Indiana Jones’ Theatrical Run

The first of the "Indiana Jones" films will remain in theaters for at least another week

Paramount has extended the theatrical run of its IMAX re-release of “Indiana Jones & the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the studio announced on Friday.

The studio opened the re-mastered classic for a one-week engagement Sept. 7, and the film went on to have the biggest per-screen average at the box office last weekend.

Now the film will continue to play this weekend and perhaps beyond, adding to its $2.4 million in grosses.

A box set of the Indy movies, “Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures,” goes on sale Sept. 18. Leaving the movie in theaters offers the studio a chance to sell more tickets at the box office and sustain momentum for the Blu-ray compendium.

Produced by George Lucas and directed by Steven Spielberg, "Raiders" is the first of four "Indiana Jones" movies.

"The re-mastering efforts by Steven, George and their team were incredible and the movie’s hugely successful run in Imax last week was a sure sign that audiences were excited to see the film again on the big screen," Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount, said in a statement. "We are thrilled that audiences will have that chance again as part of this extended theatrical run."
