The untold origins of Peter Pan are about to be revealed in director Joe Wright‘s reimagined take on the classic tale of the boy who never wanted to grow up. “Pan” will still have Peter battling a murderous pirate but unlike the stories of the past, the foe to be fought is Blackbeard, played by Hugh Jackman.
In a new trailer released Tuesday, Jackman’s character kidnaps an orphaned Peter (played by newcomer Levi Miller) and takes him to Neverland aboard his enormous floating ship. Our hero is helped by an unexpected ally in this film, though: a young Captain Hook, played by Garrett Hedlund.
Rooney Mara also assists in saving the day as Tiger Lilly while Amanda Seyfried is seen as Mary, the mother who must leave her son Peter with only a hope that the two will meet again someday in another world.
Don’t blink, or you’ll miss Cara Delevingne as she swims through the screen as a sparkly mermaid.
Allison Williams and the NBC’s own live Peter Pan event might feature flying, but the new trailer for “Pan” takes the franchise to some serious new heights.
“Pan” was written by Jason Fuchs and will be released July 17, 2015.
