Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired US rights to “Murderball” director Dana Adam Shapiro’s “Monogamy,” the company announced on Monday. “Monogamy” represents the Oscar winning documentary director’s feature film debut.
Starring Chris Messina (“Julie & Julia”) and Rashida Jones (“Parks and Recreation”), the film centers on a wedding photographer who establishes a side business taking pictures of clients as they go about their day. All goes well, until he gets hired by a sexy exhibitionist, which puts his own relationship with his finance in crisis.
The movie had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April where it won the Best New York Narrative Award. Oscilloscope will release the film theatrically in early 2011.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Oscilloscope would only reveal that negotiations were conducted by “a bunch of people who love the film.”
Canadian rights are still available.
