This year’s Best Picture nominees include a three-hour American epic about an architect, a blockbuster adaptation of a popular Broadway show, a gonzo body horror film about aging in Hollywood, and a Spanish-language French musical crime drama. That is not to even mention the pair of wildly different Timothée Chalamet-starring films that made it onto the 2025 Best Picture slate, or the sex worker dramedy that has been an Oscar frontrunner since May of last year.
On paper, it is hard to discern just how this year’s Best Picture nominees stack up against each other. So, here they all are, ranked by their Rotten Tomatoes scores.

“Emilia Pérez”
No surprise here. “Emilia Pérez” is the most divisive of this year’s Best Picture nominees, and that’s reflected in its Rotten Tomatoes score. The film currently sits at 72% on the Tomatometer.

“A Complete Unknown”
Entertaining but not nearly as rule-breaking as its real-life subject, director James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” holds the no. 9 spot on this list with an 81% Rotten Tomatoes score.

“Wicked”
“Wicked” may have been one of 2024’s biggest blockbuster hits with casual moviegoers, but it didn’t win over as many critics as some of its fellow Best Picture nominees. The film’s Rotten Tomatoes score sits right now at 88%.

“The Substance”
Just barely edging out “Wicked,” director Coralie Fargeat’s maximalist body horror sci-fi film “The Substance” holds a surprisingly high — given its material and unapologetic style — 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Nickel Boys”
Director RaMell Ross’ stylistically bold Colson Whitehead adaptation “Nickel Boys” is the first Best Picture nominee on this list to sit above the 90% mark on Rotten Tomatoes, thanks to its 91% Tomatometer score.

“Dune: Part Two”
Director Denis Villeneuve’s striking sci-fi epic “Dune: Part Two” currently holds the No. 5 spot on this list with a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score.

“Conclave”
“Conclave” has garnered the reputation of being one of 2024’s most widely liked awards contenders, and its 93% Rotten Tomatoes score offers no evidence to the contrary.

“Anora”
Writer-director Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning Best Picture nominee “Anora” boasts the same 93% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes as “Conclave.” The film has a slightly higher Popcornmeter score than “Conclave,” though. “Anora” currently holds an 89% score in that metric, while “Conclave” holds an 86%.

“The Brutalist”
Director Brady Corbet’s three-hour American drama “The Brutalist” sits just above “Anora” and “Conclave” at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“I’m Still Here”
In case the passion of its fans hadn’t made it clear just how much support there is for director Walter Salles’ “I’m Still Here,” its 97% Tomatometer score should. The film holds the highest Rotten Tomatoes score of any of this year’s Best Picture nominees.
