Original ’90s Flash John Wesley Shipp Joins CW’s Reboot

The actor played the superhero in the TV series that aired on CBS

CW and Warner Bros. Television is staging a flash-back.

John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen AKA The Flash on the ’90s CBS series about DC Comics’ speedy superhero, has joined The CW’s pilot which stars “Glee’s” Grant Gustin in the title role.

Shipp’s role is being kept secret by producers, but it will become a recurring guest role if The CW picks up “The Flash” to series.

In addition to Gustin, Shipp joins already announced castmembers Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Rick Cosnett and Danielle Panabaker.

Shipp’s many TV credits include MTV’s “Teen Wolf,” NBC’s “Sisters,” The WB’s “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Life to Live.”

Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter are executive producing the “Flash” pilot, with Berlanti and Kreisberg writing along with Geoff Johns (“Arrow,” “Smallville”). Melissa Kellner Berman will co-executive produce the project.
