Welcome to Litchfield — err, Max.
Netflix dropped the trailer for the upcoming installment of “Orange is the New Black” Monday and welcomed us all back to prison, only this time we’re heading to a bigger, badder, penitentiary than the one we’ve come to know and love over the last five seasons of the Jenji Kohan prison dramedy.
In the 2-minute, 21-second clip for Season 6, we see Piper (Taylor Schilling), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Red (Kate Mulgrew), Suzanne (Uzo Aduba), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore), Gloria (Selenis Leyva), Blanca (Laura Gomez) and Frieda (Dale Soules) all growing accustomed to a brand new world.
“Navigating adult female friendships is so complicated!” Suzanne shouts, after Piper explains to her the rules of the yard between the “Blues” and the “Khakis” in their new mega-prison.
“You don’t know how strong my girls are,” Red declares during an interrogation sequence that sees all the ladies being grilled over the details of the season-five prison riot. “We have iron wills and f–ing nothing to lose.”
Noticeably missing from the trailer is Laura Prepon, which is noted when Piper asks “Where is Alex? Don’t you think it’s weird we’re the only people in here?” (However, Prepon had a baby around the time the season began production, so that may be the reason for her absence.)
Here is the official synopsis for the upcoming sixth installment: The ladies of Litchfield are back with iron wills and nothing to lose. In maximum security, friendships will be tested and new allegiances will be formed. Will they turn on each other or keep their bonds intact?
In case you don’t remember, the final episode of season five played out over three days during a riot, which left a guard dead, and saw Piper, Alex and Nicky, holed up in Frieda’s bunker that had just been turned over by CERT officers, while the rest of the prison’s inmates were loaded up on buses and shipped out to new penitentiaries.
The trailer confirms that Daya (Dascha Polanco) — who exited the fifth season early — has been sent to max for instigating the riot.
“OITNB” is produced by Lionsgate.
