The last season of “Orange Is the New Black” finally has a premiere date, with the Netflix dramedy’s seventh and final outing to debut on the streaming service on July 26.
Netflix first announced last fall that the seventh season of the prison dramedy — ordered all the way back in 2016 as part of a massive three-season renewal — would mark the end of the show’s run. A new teaser released on Wednesday pays homage to the show’s theme song, “You’ve Got Time” by Regina Spektor, showing the cast singing the song to themselves as they prepare to shoot the final set of episodes.
According to Netflix, Season 7 will see “the ladies of Litchfield come to terms with the fact that prison has changed them forever.”
Per Netflix’s description of the upcoming season, “Piper (Taylor Schilling) struggles with life on the outside, while life in Max, as corrupt and unjust as ever, goes on without her. Taystee’s (Danielle Brooks) friendship with Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) still hangs in the balance as her life sentence looms, Gloria (Selenis Leyva) and her kitchen staff are confronted by the hard truth of Polycon’s newest profit stream, while others chase drugs or dreams and grapple with the reality of their place in this world.”
Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Michael Harney and Nick Sandow also star.
“Orange Is the New Black” first premiered in 2013 and was part of Netflix’s first batch of original programming — its third, to be specific, after “House of Cards” and Eli Roth’s “Hemlock Grove.” It currently holds the title of Netflix’s longest-running original series.
