One Direction Serenades Sesame Street, Sails to ‘Today’ Show (Video)

The British pop sensations rock the alphabet, visit Matt Lauer to hype new album

Given their firsthand knowledge of “What Makes You Beautiful,” it’s no big surprise to find the boys of One Direction stopping by Sesame Street to extoll the letter “U.”

On a promo spree for their new album “Four,” band members Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan came to croon with various puppets about how useful a letter like “u” can be (watch below).

To mark its record release, the band arrived at a “Today” show interview and performance Monday in Orlando, Florida via speedboat — minus Malik, who had a “tummy bug” according to Payne.

“Today” anchor Matt Lauer wasn’t shy in prodding the band about absent Malik, alluding to rumors about substance abuse. At the mere mention, the rapt audience of 15,000 booed Lauer for broaching the topic.

“We only found out this morning so we’re really sad, he is as well, that he can’t be here for our album release … It’s still going to be a great day, I’m sure,” Payne said.

Over the weekend it was announced that One Direction will also appear alongside Chris Martin, Bono and Sam Smith in a recording of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” An effort from Bob Geldof’s Band Aid, sales will benefit victims of and prevention for the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
