Prominent Indian actor Om Puri has joined the cast of "The Hundred-Foot Journey," DreamWorks announced on Friday. Puri will star alongside Helen Mirren and Manish Dayal in the next film from "Chocolat" director Lasse Halstrom.
The movie revolves Hassan Haji, a 22-year-old Indian man who becomes a famous French chef with the help of Madame Mallory (Mirren). Steve Knight wrote the screenplay from Richard Morais' best-selling book.
Puri has appeared in dozens of movies across a career that dates back to the early 1970s, starring mostly in Indian films like "Ardh Satya" and "Gupt." He has also appeared in several British films.
In "The Hundred-Foot Journey," he boards a film being produced by a pair of American luminaries — Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey — as well as Juliet Blake. The film begins production in September and Disney plans to release it in the United States next August.
