Olivia Wilde will make her feature directing debut with “Booksmart” for Annapurna Pictures, the company announced Friday.
Kaitlyn Dever (“Last Man Standing”) and Beanie Feldstein (“Lady Bird”) will star. Wilde, Dever and Feldstein made the announcement on their Instagram pages.
Dever and Feldstein will play two teenage academic superstars who, on the eve of their high school graduation, suddenly realize that they should have worked less and played more.
Determined never to fall short of their peers, the girls set out on a mission to cram four years of fun into one night.
The film is being produced by Annapurna and Gloria Sanchez, the female-focused wing of Gary Sanchez Productions. Chelsea Barnard, David Distenfeld, and Megan Ellison are producing for Annapurna. Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will produce for Gloria Sanchez.
The script is written by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins. Initial revisions were written by Susanna Fogel, and current revisions by Katie Silberman.
Wilde’s recent film credits include “Meadowland,” which she also produced, “Her” and “Rush.”
Wilde has directed music videos for Red Hot Chili Peppers and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Wilde will next be seen in “A Vigilante,” premiering at SXSW, and Dan Fogelman’s “Life Itself.” She is repped by WME, Untitled, and Ziffren Brittenham, LLP.
Feldstein is repped by WME and Brillstein. Dever is repped by UTA and Felker Toczek.
