Tilda Swinton is front and center in the first teaser for “Snowpiercer” director Bong Joon Ho’s new film “Okja.”
The film follows Mija, a young girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend, a massive animal named Okja.
Following her across continents, the coming-of-age comedy drama sees Mija’s horizons expand in a way one never would want for one’s children, coming up against the harsh realities of genetically modified food experimentation, globalization, eco-terrorism, and humanity’s obsession with image, brand and self-promotion.
In addition to Swinton, the film will also star Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, “Walking Dead” alum Steven Yeun, and Giancarlo Esposito. Netflix is co-producing the film along with Lewis Pictures and Brad Pitt‘s company Plan B Entertainment.
Joon Ho wrote the film with Jon Ronson in addition to directing. He will also produce along with Dooho Choi, Dede Gardner, Lewis Taewan Kim, Jeremy Kleiner, and Woo-sik Seo. Brad Pitt and Ted Sarandos executive produce.
“Okja” will debut exclusively on Netflix June 28.
