It may be pushing Donald Trump to the top of Republican polls, but President Barack Obama says the so-called Birther issue will help him in the upcoming presidential election.
“I think that over the last two and a half years there's been an effort to go at me in a way that is politically expedient in the short-term for Republicans, but creates, I think a problem for them when they want to actually run in a general election where most people feel pretty confident the President was born where he says he was, in Hawaii. He doesn't have horns,” Obama said during an interview on "Good Morning America."

Obama told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that GOP contenders focus on questions about whether or not he was born in the United States at their own peril.
"The vast majority of Americans really want this election to be about growing the economy, getting conrtol of the deficit, preparing the future for our kids and my suspicion is that anybody who is not addressing those questions is going to be in trouble," Obama said.
Despite the President's confidence, Obama's stock has plunged recently in polls. Obama's approval rating plunged to 41 percent in the latest Gallup daily tracking poll, the lowest level in his presidency.
In contrast, Trump has riden the wave of "Obama must be foreign" to soaring poll numbers. A recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll places Trump tied for second in the GOP field.
