A&E and Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) will air a pair of documentaries about OJ Simpson, the networks announced Thursday.
The LMN special, “The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story,” reveals new insights into both the events surrounding the verdict of the criminal trial and various disturbing facets of O.J.’s personality through never before heard statements by Simpson himself.
The documentary also exposes disturbing realities about his thoughts, feelings and behavior before, during and after the trial. And, for the first time in 20 years, an audio recording that Simpson secretly taped, prior to the infamous Bronco Chase, is heard. The special features rare interviews with key players on both sides of the case, including extensive candid discussions with Robert Kardashian and Kris Kardashian Jenner.
The A&E special, “O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes,” provides unique access to the civil trial, which found O.J. responsible for the wrongful deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Viewers gain exclusive access to the plaintiffs’ deposition tapes from the civil trial – which were locked away and buried in a storage warehouse for nearly 20 years.
On October 3, 1995, the “trial of the century” culminated with O.J. Simpson’s acquittal on the charges of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
The documentaries are the latest project to tackle the trial, as FX is prepping Ryan Murphy‘s “American Crime Story” for release in 2016. That anthology series will follow the behind the scenes story of the court case, with Cuba Gooding Jr. playing Simpson, John Travolta playing Robert Shapiro, and David Schwimmer playing Robert Kardashian.
“The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story” and “O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes” are produced for LMN and A&E by ABS Productions. Stephen Auerbach, Chuck Braverman and Lawrence Schiller are executive producers for ABS Productions. Laura Fleury and Peter Tarshis serve as executive producers for LMN and A&E.
LMN will premiere the two-hour, “The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story” on Sept. 30, at 8pm/7c, and A&E will premiere the two-hour, “O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes” on Oct. 1, at 9pm/8c.
