NY Film Fest to Honor Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes

Star of "Blue Jasmine" and director/star of "The Invisible Man" will receive gala tributes and dinners at this year's NYFF

Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes will receive tributes at this year’s New York Film Festival, the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced on Thursday.

Justin SmithBlanchett has won raves this summer for her performance as a Upper East Side woman trying (without much success) to get her life back of track after the arrest of her Bernie Madoff-style husband in Woody Allen‘s “Blue Jasmine.”  She has been nominated for five Academy Awards, and won for playing Katharine Hepburn in “The Aviator.”

Her gala tribute, and an intimate dinner that will follow, will take place Oct. 2.

Fiennes, who was nominated for Oscars for “Schindler’s List” and “The English Patient,” stars as Charles Dickens in the NYFF selection “The Invisible Man,” which he also directed. His tribute and dinner will take place on Oct. 9, in conjunction with a screening of the new film.

Ralph FiennesPast NYFF honorees include Nicole Kidman, Pedro Almodóvar and David Cronenberg.

The 2013 NYFF opens on Sept. 27 with the world premiere of Paul Greengrass’ “Captain Phillips,” and closes on Oct. 13 with Spike Jonze’s “Her.” Other films screening at the festival include Ben Stiller’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” and the Coen brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis.”
