Comedy Central’s winning streak continues with “Not Safe With Nikki Glaser.” The stand-up’s voice and point of view of a self-proclaimed “curious perv” are clear as a bell in this new show that’s all about sex, in its many shapes and forms, and our attitudes about sex. Glaser takes a no holds barred approach to the topic, which makes for funny, honest, awkward and sometimes embarrassing moments rarely seen on TV.
You may be familiar with Nikki Glaser; she’s a familiar face in comedy circles from her appearances on “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Trainwreck,” “@midnight” and her short-lived MTV show with Sara Schaefer “Nikki and Sara Live.” She’s an experienced stand-up comedian with a quick wit and a sharp tongue to go with it. “Not Safe” proves she’s ready to topline a show.
In the premiere episode, Glaser is joined by fellow comedians Rory Scovel and Rachel Feinstein to share stories about subjects like “friend zoning” and Tinder midsadventures. There’s also a field segment about foot fetishes that takes Glaser to a fetish party. It’s all done with straight-up honesty and humor and the result is a healthy dose of laughs. The half hour moves quickly and Glaser quickly establishes herself as a gal you’d want to have a drink with and compare raunchy stories. Refreshingly, there’s no judgment here; just a healthy acceptance that we all have a freak flag to fly and Glaser encourages us to “Carpe Do-em.”
As an added bonus, there’s more than the weekly show airing on Comedy Central: “Not Safe” is Comedy Central’s first series to be introduced and developed across multiple social platforms, including a companion Snapchat original series, “Quickie with Nikki” that debuted previous to this month’s on-air premiere. Comedy Central will offer fans who authenticate via their cable or satellite provider access to stream episodes of the show the day after air via the Comedy Central App and cc.com. “Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” will also be available the day after air on iTunes, Microsoft Movies & TV, Amazon Video, Google Play, Vudu and Verizon Flexview.
“Not Safe with Nikki Glaser” premieres tonight at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
