Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins are teaming up for TNT’s “I Am the Night” limited series — and it looks like it will be creepier than “Wonder Woman.”
In the first trailer for the thriller — originally titled “One Day She’ll Darken” — Pine plays reporter Jay Singletary, who gets wrapped up in the story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a young girl who is searching for her identity after learning she was adopted. Things take a dark turn when her search uncovers a thread that connects to the 1974 “Black Dahlia” murder.
Pine’s character explains that there’s a 15-year-old case that “this girl” knows all about. He finds Fauna and begins to dig deeper into the investigation, but it seems pretty clear that there’s someone out there who doesn’t want him to keep investigating.
“Some stories will eat you alive,” a voice offscreen says in the trailer.
The six-part series, based on the autobiography co-written by the real Hodel, is written by Sam Sheridan and also stars Leland Orser, Jefferson Mays, Dylan Smith, Jay Paulson, Yul Vazquez, Justin Cornwell, and Golden Brooks. Jenkins directed the pilot. The project is produced by Turner’s Studio T. Jenkins, Sheridan, Pine and Michael Sugar (“13 Reasons Why”) will serve as executive producers.
“I Am the Night” is set for a January 2019 premiere.
