Christina Fulton, ex-girlfriend of Nicolas Cage, dropped the actor from a lawsuit against their son Weston Coppola Cage, but is still suing Weston for an assault that allegedly occurred back in April 2024.
On Monday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court granted Fulton a dismissal of the charges against Cage. It can not be refiled in court.
Fulton earlier alleged that Cage knew their 34-year-old son had a history of mental instability, substance abuse and violence. The lawsuit claimed that the actor bailing his son out of jail amounted to negligence, which he was originally sued for, on two counts.
Fulton said that because of Weston’s alleged assault, she suffered a concussion, multiple contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD and psychological damages, all of which “have required extensive medical care, surgeries and treatments.”
“The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous,” the actor’s lawyer told TheWrap in February. “Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.”
Fulton is continuing her suit against her son for negligence, assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
In February, Weston’s attorney told TheWrap, “Ms. Fulton’s decision to file a lawsuit against her own son is not surprising given her past history of litigation against family members. It appears to be nothing short of a money grab and call for attention. Ms. Fulton correctly advised the responding LAPD officers that her son was in the midst of a mental-health crisis at the time of this incident. We will deal with this appropriately, and in a courtroom.”
“This lawsuit is a very unfortunate situation and especially disparaging coming from a mother to her son,” his attorney then added in a follow-up statement. “Weston and his team are remaining focused on his three upcoming films, two new music singles and we are happy to report he is approaching one year of sobriety.”
