Nick Robinson, Alex Roe Join Chloe Moretz in ‘The 5th Wave’

J Blakeson is directing from a script by Susannah Grant, who adapted Rick Yancey’s bestselling novel

Nick Robinson and Alex Roe are set to join Chloe Moretz in Sony Pictures’ YA movie “The 5th Wave,” it was announced Friday on Twitter.

J Blakeson (“The Disappearance of Alice Creed”) is directing “The 5th Wave” from a script by Susannah Grant (“Erin Brockovich”), who adapted Rick Yancey’s bestselling novel.

Robinson will play Ben Parish, aka Zombie, while Roe will play Evan Walker alongside Moretz, who stars as Cassie Sullivan.

Story follows 16-year-old Cassie, who survives four waves of deadly attacks against the Earth’s population. On the run to save her younger brother, she meets a mysterious young man (Roe) who may become her final hope.

GK Films acquired rights to the project back in March 2012 when it purchased a proposal for a young adult trilogy from author Yancey, whose novel was published in May 2013 by Penguin. Sony is co-financing and distributing.

GK Films principal Graham King will produce with Tobey Maguire and Matthew Plouffe of Material Pictures. Sony executives Hannah Minghella and Andrea Giannetti are overseeing the project for the studio.

Roe is a discovery of sorts for Sony, as the young British actor has only appeared on a handful U.K. TV series as well as the indie horror movie “The Calling.” He’s repped by WME, Luber Roklin and Associated International Management.

Robinson is a rising young star who recently starred in “The Kings of Summer” and will soon be seen in the Universal tentpole “Jurassic World.” He’s repped by UTA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
