As Bobbi Kristina Brown spends her final days in hospice care, her boyfriend
Gordon has hired Jose Baez, the Florida criminal defense attorney who won an acquittal for Casey Anthony in her 2011 murder case, People reported Tuesday.
News that Gordon has obtained a high-profile lawyer comes one week after Brown’s court-appointed conservator filed a lawsuit against Gordon alleging that he assaulted Brown and transferred funds to himself from her bank account without her permission.
The complaint, filed by Bedelia C. Hargrove in Fulton County, Georgia, last Wednesday, alleged that Gordon posed as Brown’s husband in order to control her contact with others as part of a “scheme to benefit from her wealth.”
Brown, the troubled 22-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was placed in a hospice care facility the same day that the lawsuit was filed.
The complaint also alleges that on January 31 — the day that Brown was found face down and unresponsive in her bathtub — she became “embroiled in a loud argument with Defendant at her townhome.”
The suit goes on to claim that shortly before the bathtub incident, Brown “had confided in someone that Defendant was not the man she thought he was” and set up a Jan. 31 meeting with that person “to further discuss this revelation.”
Last Thursday, the case was turned over to the Fulton County district attorney for further review.
According to People, Baez will act as Gordon’s co-counsel along with attorneys Joe Habachy and Randy Kessler, who have represented Gordon for several months. The high-profile legal team has also reportedly enlisted investigator TJ Ward, who worked on the Natalee Holloway disappearance case.
Baez rose to prominence in his successful defense of Anthony, an Orlando mom accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie, in 2008 to free herself from parental responsibilitie
Baez has not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Brown has been hospitalized since January when she was placed in a medically induced coma after being found in her bathtub. But on Wednesday, her aunt Pat Houston, Brown’s co-guardian with
“Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s condition has continued to deteriorate,” Pat Houston said in a statement.
