Nick Gordon, the ex-boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown who was found legally responsible for her death by a judge in civil case, has died at the age of 30.
Gordon’s attorney, Joe S. Habachy, confirmed his death in a statement to TheWrap on Thursday. He did not disclose the cause of death but hinted at drug addiction issues.
“My heart is heavy today after learning that my long time client Nick Gordon died at the young age of 30. While I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of his death, I can say that it’s been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had immense potential,” Habachy said.
“Despite all of the incredible challenges Nick faced over the last few years I can honestly say that he worked hard to hold his head up and stay sober and that he genuinely wanted a happy healthy life with his family more than anything else,” Habachy continued. “My heart goes out to the family and friends Nick leaves behind and to any other families dealing with the losses and heartache caused by drugs.”
Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was found unconscious in the bathtub of her Georgia home on Jan. 31, 2015, and died on July 26 at age 22 after clinging to life for six months. Pneumonia and brain damage brought on by drug intoxication and water immersion were ruled as the cause of death.
Gordon was later found legally responsible for Brown’s death in a civil case and in 2016, was ordered to pay $36 million to the estate of his late girlfriend. Gordon failed to appear for two hearings in the civil case in Brown’s death, and her family won by default, according to CNN.
Brown’s passing came three years after Houston was found submerged and unresponsive in a bathtub on Feb. 11, 2012, and died soon after.
Gordon grew up alongside Brown, having been taken in and raised by Houston when he was 12 years old, according to CNN. The two began dating after Houston’s death in 2012.
