Marvel released a new featurette for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” that explores the backstory of twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
Writer and director Joss Whedon says that the characters are “massively important” to the storyline.
Quicksilver, whose real name is Pietro Maximoff, is super-fast and is known for being incredibly impatient with those who move at normal speed. He is played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Scarlet Witch, whose real name is Wanda Maximoff, is telekinetic and has the ability to psychically manipulate those around her. She is played by Elizabeth Olsen.
“They only have one another. It’s kind of just them against the world,” Johnson said. When asked about his character, Johnson continued, “He’s quick at everything. He’s quick-tempered. Everyone goes so slow for him.”
Olsen said that her character is the exact opposite of Johnson’s character: “He’s fast and quick and anxious. She’s grounded and thoughtful.”
“What’s so interesting to me is how connected she is and how grounded she is with the universe,” Olsen said. “And how much power she has without realizing it.”
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” opens in theaters May 1.
