Bong Joon Ho’s anticipated follow-up to 2013’s “Snowpiercer” — the mysterious “Okja” — is coming into focus.
The Netflix Original has released a new still and concept art featuring Lily Collins (“Rules Don’t Apply”), who stars in the project about a young Korean girl named Mija on a mission to stop a global corporation from exploiting her friend and title character — a giant animal.
Collins plays an anarchist helping Mija (newcomer Seo Hyun) thwart the devious institution.
“Okja” co-stars Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”) and Kelly Macdonald. It’s slated for a Summer 2017 release.
Swinton, an executive producer on the project, inadvertently brought the film to the center of a recent private conversation with comedian Margaret Cho that was made public. Swinton reached out to the Korean American entertainer to explore the backlash against her own casting as The Ancient One, an historically Asian male character portrayed in Marvel’s blockbuster “Doctor Strange.”
