Netflix has ordered drama series “The OA” from Plan B Entertainment and Anonymous Content to premiere in 2016.
The eight-episode series stars indie actress Brit Marling (“Arbitrage,” “Another Earth”), who also serves as writer and executive producer along with Zal Batmanglij (“Sound of My Voice,” “The East”).
Marling and Batmanglij previously collaborated on “Another Earth” and “Sound of My Voice,” both of which screened at Sundance in 2011. This is the first television project for the pair.
Details about the story of “The OA” have yet to be revealed.
Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner serve as executive producers from Brad Pitt‘s Plan B, and Michael Sugar, partner at Anonymous Content, also executive produces. “The OA” is a Netflix production.
Netflix also announced Thursday that it will be the exclusive distributor of A&E Network’s “The Returned” for territories outside the U.S. and Canada. The FremantleMedia production executive produced by “Bates Motel” showrunner Carlton Cuse will premiere Mar. 10 and stream weekly one day after the U.S. broadcast.
“The Returned,” based on the popular French series “Les Revenants,” about supernatural phenomena that occur when the dead return to life, premieres on A&E Mar. 9 at 10 p.m. ET.
