Netflix has cast Naomi Watts in its latest original series, “Gypsy,” the streaming service announced on Monday.
Watts will star in the psychological thriller as Jean Holloway, a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.
Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey”) will direct the first two of of the 10 one-hour episodes.
Liza Chasin and Lisa Rubin will executive produce the Netflix series from Universal Television and Working Title. Rubin will also serve as the writer. Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Andrew Stearn and Watts will also serve as executive producers.
The series is set for a 2017 premiere.
Watts most recently starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in “Demolition.” Other credits include “Birdman” with Michael Keaton, “Allegiant” and “While We’re Young.” She is shooting “The Book of Henry” and “The Bleeder,” and it was recently announced that Watts would join Brie Larson in “The Glass Castle.”
