As “NCIS” approaches Abby’s (Pauley Perrette) exit, fan theories are popping up about how the beloved character might be written out.
One new possibility was floated in light of this week’s episode, as Gibbs (Mark Harmon) mentioned that he has a friend who is in recovery to battle alcoholism. This led fans to wonder if this friend might be Abby — given that alcoholism runs in her family — and whether this could have something to do with the character’s departure.
“Taking bets that Abby is Gibbs friend in recovery,” wrote one fan. “Maybe this is the way @PauleyP is leaving the show.”
“Were they hinting Abby is ‘a friend of Bill’?” another supporter tweeted, using the euphemism for a recovering alcoholic.
The show didn’t make it clear who Gibbs was referring to, and as one viewer pointed out, Gibbs had offered Abby a drink during an episode a few years back, making this a questionable move if Gibbs knew she’s recovering.
Perrette announced earlier this month that she is leaving “NCIS” at the end of Season 15. New series regular Maria Bello was introduced as Jack in last week’s episode.

Good guess. Only reason I lean toward Abby is bc she said Scuitos have a long line of alcoholism(tho she was adopted so wouldn’t be genetic)
