NBC Predicts NFL Season a Go; If Not, Get Ready for Live Reality Specials

In a positive sign for pro football fans, network executives and advertisers alike, NBC thinks labor unrest won’t crater the NFL season

NBC expects the NFL to resolve its labor struggle in time for football season, and is working on a contingency plan of reality specials if it doesn't, network entertainment president Bob Greenblatt said Sunday.

Greenblatt unveiled a fall schedule that includes another season of major ratings draw "Sunday Night Football." He said NBC sports president Dick Ebersol is following developments in the players lockout closely and believes it will be resolved in time for the season.

"We're obviously very close to what's going on with this situation and we're feeling pretty optimistic that football will be there," Greenblatt said.

If the season starts late, however, Greenblatt said NBC is planning "high-quality, live-event, reality-type shows."
