NBC just won its fourth-straight September to September season in the key 18-49 demo’s TV ratings. CBS claimed the same 52-week span in terms of total viewers, the amazing 14th time in 15 years that we can report that.
This past fiscal year marked NBC’s first year-long victory without an Olympics or Super Bowl in 14 years. And the network’s margin of victory, +27 percent, marks the largest gap over No. 2 at this point in 19 years.
NBC is also about to close out its seventh-straight summer atop the Nielsen leaderboard, thanks in large part to “America’s Got Talent,” “World of Dance” and “American Ninja Warrior.” In other words, it’s a pretty good time to be Bob Greenblatt.
Below are some Nielsen numbers through September 17, 2017, which still leaves us with a week left to count. All numbers in this story include a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available.
Adult 18-49 Rating
NBC: 1.9
Fox: 1.5
CBS: 1.5
ABC: 1.5
Total Viewers
CBS: 8.1 million
NBC: 7.5 million
ABC: 5.7 million
Fox: 4.9 million
By the way, without news and sports, NBC would still have won this thing — so it’s not all about “Sunday Night Football.”
Here is the entertainment series-only version of this past year’s ratings:
NBC: 1.5
ABC:1.4
CBS: 1.3
Fox: 1.2
Before CBS says something smart, NBC also topped the older 25-54 demo — so the “This Is Us” home had a bunch of Americans covered throughout the year.
