UPDATE: NBC has canceled the musical series "Smash" after two seasons.
The series, a favored project of NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, got off to a promising start with its first season, when it piggybacked on NBC's hit singing competition "The Voice." The second season, however, was another story. Following the departure of series creator Theresa Rebeck, and a major cast shakeup that saw departures and the addition of a slew of regular and guest cast members, the show faltered upon its return, and was recently moved to Saturday nights.
NBC has also canceled the Ryan Murphy comedy "The New Normal."

NBC has canceled "Rock Center," its primetime news magazine show hosted and executive produced by "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams.
In its announcement on Friday, the network said the show's final episode air date is still to be determined. It only said that the show won't be on its fall schedule.
The show has struggled in the ratings race since its premiere. Replacing the canceled "The Playboy Club" in November 2011, it didn't initially top the period drama in the ratings.

Part of its struggle to find an audience can be blamed on its multiple scheduling changes — it moved to four different nights during its less than two year run. Last Friday's episode earned a 1.1 rating/3 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 4.2 million total viewers.
Ted Koppel, Meredith Vieira, Natalie Moralies, Kate Snow and Harry Smith are among the show's talented star correspondents. In a move that has since received a lot of criticism, Chelsea Clinton also served as a "Rock Center" correspondent.
