National Journal Makes Yet Another New Hire

Atlantic Media-owned brand poaches Boston Globe’s online editor, continues staffing spree

The National Journal Group has made yet another new hire — announcing on Wednesday that it has lured David Beard, editor of Boston.com, away from the Boston Globe to become the Journal’s deputy editor-in-chief and online editor.

Beard will “oversee National Journal's subscription and free websites and work closely with the entire editorial team in the new digital-first National Journal newsroom.”

At the Globe, Beard received critical praise for launching the award-winning, excellent Big Picture photo blog.

Meanwhile, the National Journal's recent staffing spree has become almost silly.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping score, a recap: the company has managed to poach a ton talent from across the print and television media spectrum, including Patsy Wilson (Reuters), Kathy Kiely (USA Today), Beth Reinhard (Miami Herald), former Fox Major Garrett (Fox News), Michael Hirsh (Newsweek), Matt Cooper (Time), Marc Ambinder (The Atlantic), Aamer Madhani (USA Today), Yochi Dreazen (WSJ), Josh Kraushaar (Politico), and a bunch of others.

And editor-in-chief Ron Fournier told TheWrap last week that they're not quite done.
