“Mufasa: The Lion King” is headed to Disney+ in late March, Dana Walden, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, announced at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference on Tuesday.

The Barry Jenkins-directed film, which served as both a prequel and sequel to 2019’s “The Lion King,” opened on Dec. 20, 2024. Since then, the film has amassed more than $700 million worldwide. This is impressive, but shy of the 2019’s film $1.7 billion. “Mufasa” stars Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, with new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The move to Disney+ is actually pretty fast; “Moana 2” opened theatrically on Nov. 27 and will arrive on Disney+ on March 12.
