The 2019 MTV VMAs will get off to a hot start tonight, with Taylor Swift opening the show from Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center.
Those with cable subscriptions will have no shortage of destinations on which to catch her and the rest of the show, but what about cord-cutters and cord-nevers? Don’t fret, we haven’t forgotten about you.
Budget-savvy millennials do not have to miss Taylor performing “Lover” — that is, so long as they follow some of the below steps.
For starters, these VMAs will air on MTV and be simulcast across its 11 Viacom sister brands.
Additionally, fans with a cable login can authenticate and watch the VMAs live on MTV.com and the MTV App. Those without a cable login can stream on platforms like Philo TV, for an example, which carries the Viacom channels. There’s also probably better-known services Sling TV and DirecTV Now.
This year, the show will offer the new “MTV VMA Stan Cam,” which will let fans take control of their VMA viewing experience in ways they never could before. Using a series of short-form streams on Twitter, MTV will ask fans to decide which stars they’d like to watch, follow backstage, go behind-the-scenes and poll on a live reaction cam during the show’s biggest moments.
As TheWrap previously exclusively reported, “Sopranos” stars Drea De Matteo, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Vincent Pastore will reunite to present at tonight’s VMAs.
John Travolta, “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness, Ice-T, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lenny Kravitz, Lindsey Vonn, Rick Ross, Salt N’ Pepa, Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris, Bebe Rexha, Megan Thee Stallion, French Montana, Hailee Steinfeld, New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban, and former New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz will also hand out Moonmen at the Monday show.
Monday’s 2019 VMAs will be hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, starting at 8/7c. The pre-show kicks off an hour earlier.
The VMAs will air in 180 countries, reaching more than half a billion households, according to MTV. Musicians and fans will celebrate the year’s best videos via live performances, viral moments and a new “immersive” fan experience, the Viacom-owned cable channel said.
Bruce Gillmer and Den of Thieves co-founder Jesse Ignjatovic
Monday’s “VMAs” air live for the east coast and central time zones — the awards show will be tape-delayed for the west coast, starting at 8 p.m. PT.
