“This one is for the champion,” Lil Nas X proclaimed at MTV’s Video Music Awards 2022 on Sunday, August 28 after collecting the first VMA award of the evening for his video collaboration with Jack Harlow on “Industry Baby.” The video also earned awards for art direction and visual effects.
However, they lost out on Video of the Year to Taylor Swift for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” which starred Sadie Sink of “Stranger Things.” The video also earned Swift wins in the directing and longform categories, making her the first artist to win for directing their own video.
Nicki Minaj, who received the Video Vanguard award, also picked up a Best Hip Hop statuette for “Do We Have A Problem?” with Young Money.
Harry Styles nabbed awards for Album of the Year (“Harry’s House”) and Best Pop, Best Cinematography and Best Choreography for (“As It Was”).
