MTV Movie Awards: The Complete List of Nominees

“Jurassic World,” “Deadpool” and “Star Wars” will battle “Avengers” sequel, “Creed” and “Straight Outta Compton” for top trophy

MTV Movie Awards

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards revealed its nominees Tuesday morning, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” proved a force to be reckoned with, leading the way with 11 nods.

“Deadpool” was second, with eight nominations of its own. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was behind the fellow superhero movie, named in six categories itself. The three aforementioned films will fight it out with “Creed,” “Jurassic World” and “Straight Outta Compton” for Movie of the Year.

On the studio side of the business, it was Universal Pictures leading the way with 21 nominations; 20th Century Fox and Disney were tied behind their rival, garnering 19 nods apiece.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart will host the 25th anniversary presentation of the Viacom cable channel’s film awards, which is being executive produced by Casey Patterson. The celebration of blockbuster movies will air Sunday, April 10, at 8 p.m. from outdoors on the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank, California.

“What has always been so cool about the ‘MTV Movie Awards’ is that it’s about blockbuster movies that audiences line up to see; comedies, superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, action,” said Patterson. “This show is about fandom and the stars come out to celebrate that. The nominees and the content are naturally diverse and eclectic because we’re a true reflection of real movie-going audience.”

This year, the MTV Movie Awards unveiled two new categories that celebrate authentic narratives: “True Story” and “Documentary.”
