The inaugural “MTV Movie & TV Awards” wrapped Sunday night and the most surprising TV hit of 2016 took home the top prize.

“Stranger Things” — the 1980s nostalgia fest from Netflix — won “Show of the Year,” while Disney’s “Beauty of the Beast” took “Movie of the Year.”

Both were also big winners in the acting categories, with Emma Watson and Millie Bobby Brown taking home the “Best Actor” awards for their respective mediums.

Other eyes were on Jordan Peele’s directorial debut “Get Out,” which led the pack with six nominations, including “Movie of the Year” and “Best Actor in a Movie.” Its star, Daniel Kaluuya, took home the “Next Generation” award that honors breakout roles, and LilRel Howery, who played standout TSA agent Rod, got the “Best Comedic Performance.”

The awards show is known for its non-traditional categories, which have long included “Best Villain” and “Best Kiss,” but this year also marked the first for two new categories: Best American Story, which was awarded to the movie or TV that showcases America at its best, as well as Best Fight Against the System.
