MTV just officially gave its high school comedy, “Awkward,” its back-10 episode order ahead of production starting and with its third season still airing, a network representative told TheWrap.
Renewed in August for its fourth season, “Awkward’s” episode count now totals 20 episodes for the upcoming year.

The order comes as a vote of confidence for new showrunners Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler ( “90210,” “Cashmere Mafia,” “Are You There, Chelsea?” and “Reba”). Creator Lauren Iungerich stepped down from the post as a result at the end of Season 3 over creative differences.
Several of the stars have told TheWrap that they have confidence in the new showrunners.

“There are some really, really great things planned,” Beau Mirchoff, who plays Matty, told TheWrap of the new head producers. “I’m not going to go into specifics, but it’s very new and very real. It’s all about maintaining the authenticity of the show and sticking with real problems, having a comedy spin on that, which is cool. They’re big fans of the show, the new showrunners — it’s not just another job for them, they’re really excited to be on board. We have a lot to look forward to.”
Season 4 is slated to air in 2014.
